Headlands Garden Plants Ltd is a family run nursery located in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. Stephen and Julie Head began building greenhouses for what would become the home of Fragro® herbs in 2003, with their first sales to garden centres taking place in the spring of 2004. Julie and Stephen both have an interest in cultivating plants in harmony with our environment, hence the tag line,‘a natural balance™’ and in 2024 began growing their plants is a new blend of growing media Stephen was involved in developing, using a higher proportion of composted bark. Not only good for the environment, the plants loved it and grew spectaculalry well in it.
Stephen trained as a horticulturist in England and Julie, also from England, has a long standing interest in herbs, particularly harvesting and cooking with herbs. Julie especially enjoys experimenting with different combinations and dishes. Our nursery has a dedicated staff, passionate about what they do, working hard to ensure that the quality of the plants we offer is unsurpassed. In 2018 Stephen and Julie were joined by their daugther Lauren, the thrid generation of horticulturalists in the family. Lauren shares her parents passion for plants and brings her enthusiasm and new ideas to the business.
The quality of our plants is what sets us apart and while we make use of technology and automation, we have not abandoned our traditional growing methods. With technology and an outstanding team at our nursery, Headlands is well positioned to meet the challenges of a growing market.
The plant collection includes over 80 herbs and plants sold under the brand name of Fragro®, noticeable by the distinctive cream and terracotta tag and terracotta colored pot. The Fragro® collection of herbs and plants cater to every taste. For our 20th anniversary in 2024 we introduced a stunning new variety of Sage, 'Celebration'PBR a compact grower, with bright golden variegated foliage, a great culinary plant and also spectacular in the landscape. For 2025, we will have another great, new to the market introduction, Rosemary 'Tuscan Beauty'PBR, highly aromatic bright golden foliage and vibrant blue flowers. Also a great culinary plant and an excellent addition to an ornamental garden or herb garden.
Like so many today, we’re fussy about what goes onto our plants, our Integrated Pest Management program includes the use of biological remedies to control pests. Within our business, we strive to offer only the highest quality plants to our customers and attain a high level of sustainability and social responsibility.
