Serves 1 (1 cup of tea)
- 1 teaspoon dried catnip, or 1 tablespoon fresh catnip leaves and/or flowers
- very hot water (not boiling)
- 2 or 3 Lemon Balm leaves - optional
- 2 or 3 Mint leaves - optional
- 1 sprig Chamomile leaves - optional
- Honey, to taste - optional
- Slices of lemon or little lemon juice
- Place dried or fresh catnip in a teacup or mug.
- Add Lemon Balm, Mint leaves or Chamomile sprig - optional.
- Pour hot, not boiling, water over catnip and other leaves.
- Cover and wait for 5 - 10 minutes. (The longer you wait the stronger the taste.)
- Strain through a tea-strainer into another cup, if desired.
- Sweeten with honey - optional.
- Add slice of lemon or a little lemon juice - optional.
Catnip tea is known for its soothing and calming properties. Many people have a cup of Catnip tea before bed-time and they believe it helps them to have a good nights sleep.
Catnip is most potent just before flowering, but you can harvest and use it at any time. The leaves and flowers can be used.
